    Music made me late....

It seems that every time I sit down to do something that requires me to have complete scielence a good song or piece of music comes on to my itunes or ipod. I have a slight ocd that when a song starts, i have to listen to the piece as a whole, unless its a song i don't really like. I have gotten to the point that it will take me 2 or 3 songs to be able to turn off the music and get to work, because all the songs that are coming up are GREAT.
This has made it to where i will want to start reading or studding in selience and have to wait 10 minutes to start.  If it is a really pressing matter, i will turn off the music, but some times i get so in to the song it just is painful to turn it off, and then i have parts of the song stuck in my head until i can listen to the whole thing over again.
Does any one else have this problem? Well, i dont really consider it a problem, but it does make for getting work done in a timely manor hard.....

    Womens Surfing!

    http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/11/sports/othersports/11surfing.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=all

Ever since i saw the early 2000's movie Blue Crush, i have been interested in womens surfing. It is a powerful and action filled sport that is just starting to be accepted. Women  have been surfing for about the same time as men, its is just that in the last few decades, they have been able to be at the same level as men.
This ny times article is about how womens surfing is started to be dominated by young competitors.  As well as the fact that the girls are starting to surf more and more difficult tricks, and the sport is really coming to its own.
The younger competitors are either still in high school or about to graduate and they feel that school is an essential part for there surfing career. One surfer say it helps her stay focused and balance. This is a different view that these young athletes are taking than the many teen super stars, that are completing ged's or being home schooled.
I think that the surfers have the right apporach; and i really enjoy the sport!

  • Travling Pains...

Next Tuesday i will be catching a flight out of the Indy airport to fly home to SC. I am a "frequent flyer" you could say and i enjoy traveling places. I started to make my lists of things to pack and take home and a list of things to bring back from home. I began to write down to remember to take my knitting on the plane, so that i can have something to do while waiting. But then i remembered, As of a few years ago, the TSA will confiscate all items they believe can be dangerous to other flyers. Well being the avid knitter i am, i wanted to make sure that you could not take them on the plane ( the 5 hrs of prime knitting time is extremely appealing.... :] ).  And as i looked online, it seems that the TSA prohibited Items list has gotten a lot shorter in the last few years.
After 9/11, it was almost impossible to fly with anything other than your close on and make it through airport security with time to catch your flight. On a trip in Dec. following 9/11 i had a group of TSA guards completely go through my oboe case, because there was a screwdriver in it that looked as if it might be able to be used as a weapon. The TSA officer almost opened my oboe case upside down, and i told him to stop he was going to hurt my oboe....and that made them think that i was going to hurt the guy, so i got searched.... long story short...it was not a fun airport experience. But to the point, it seems that airport security has lightened in the last year or so. It may be contributed to the fact that there are much more advanced security systems  and the new rules for liquid are finally becoming standard for most major airports around the world, not only the US.
So If you are traveling this Holiday season here is the link to the updated prohibited Items list from the TSA....just in case you want to check to see if you should check your saber or carry it on.... lol :].....

  • Blog Block?

Lately i have been experiencing  a sort of blog writers bock. I sit down with and idea or topic to write about, and everything that i write makes NO since. As well as the fact that i am having an extremely hard time coming up with blog topics in the first place. I want to be able to write good blog posts, but i always seem to write about the same things, what we did in class or a You-tube video i like, etc. I am wondering if any one else is having the same problem with their blogs? I know these kind of blocks come and go, but it seems like i have been stuck with this for a long time....
    Thanks a Bunch!

    Project Reflection

    1)

When I look back at the work I have done on this project, I feel as if i could of done better, but i am confident with in my work, and how I supported my examples and opinions on the add, and how it relates to American Culture.

    2)

I think the strengths of this project are the introduction and conclusion. As well as my thesis statement.

    3)

In retrospect, I think the areas of my project that could be improved are spelling and grammar, as well as the body paragraphs.

    4)

I preferred working more on the second project on advertising because it was more of a focused paper, as well as it seemed to be easer to write. I also felt that i learned more about how advertisements are made, how they are focused at certain people, as well as how to spot certain things in ads and what they are meant to appeal too.

    5)

Overall, my favorite part about this unit on advertising was how structured the paper was, but it still allowd for some personal expression.

    6)

Overall, my least favorite part about this unit on advertising was how short it was. I would of like to know more about this topic and how advertisement works in different forms than just print.

    7)

Above all else, I hope my reader learns from my project that we can not judge American culture from what we see in print ads. ( lol)
